About

Welcome to my resource site for the ‘Battle of Brunanburh’.

I studied elements of Anglo Saxon history at St Andrews university, but my professional career has taken me down a very different path, so aside from a keen interest in Military and Anglo-Saxon history, I don’t claim to be an historian (although I would love to remedy that in later life).  I owe my interest in the Battle of Brunanburh to Micheal Wood who first introduced the arguments over its location to me about 10 years ago via the pages of his excellent book  ‘In Search of England’.

Over the last few years I grew more and more interested in the written sources of this great battle, and intrigued by the arguments for and against each possible location.  Before I knew it my collection of old and new books had grown and I had amassed a stack of paper printed from different sources.  Recently I was trawling through the stacks of paper and I thought it would be a good idea to put all of the major resources in one place (online) for others to easily access and enjoy, and maybe make their own considerations for some of the location suggestions.

This site will be a work in progress for a while, and I would be delighted to hear from you if would like to add some text, or a well formed location argument.

I hope you enjoy this site.
